The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights called on Tuesday for Nigerian authorities to "take all necessary legal measures" to stop the mass kidnappings spreading across the country. A recent wave of kidnappings in just a few days has claimed nearly 400 victims, including 350 students and teachers, highlighting the security crisis plaguing Africa's most populous nation (230 million people) for over a decade. "We call on Nigerian authorities, at all levels, to take all necessary legal measures to put an end to these heinous attacks and bring those responsible to justice," said the spokesperson for the Commission, Tamin al-Khaitan, to journalists.
