The Nigerian police have announced that armed criminals from a criminal gang kidnapped 25 girls in an attack on a girls' secondary school in the northwestern part of the country early Monday morning. According to authorities, the incident took place in the city of Gwandu, Katsina State. The attackers stormed the school in the early hours when the students were in their dormitories. Authorities have launched a rescue operation for the hostages and are searching for the kidnappers. This is not the first case of schoolgirls' abduction in Nigeria. In 2014, militants from the 'Boko Haram' group kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls from the town of Chibok, causing an international outcry.
